Who We Are
First Movement works with learning disabled people, creating projects that develop and promote their unique creativity.
First Movement is committed to changing the way learning disabled people see and value their creativity, by placing them in a situation where their work takes place alongside other creative people.
Its work in the Level Centre and Level Mobile Studio accentuates the creation and presentation of new work and the creation of new creative product.
First Movement's arts projects offer people the opportunity to try a range of new creative activities that aim to be instantly accessible no matter what communication difficulties people may have. First Movement's project are open to all - people with complex support needs are welcome.
Based in the Derbyshire Dales for twenty years, First Movement works across the East Midlands.
Projects aim to provide a stimulating, positive and supportive atmosphere to encourage active participation. Sessions are rich with choices for each individual to make. They encourage self expression and interaction with other people, and help people to develop confidence and self esteem.
The core programme is mainly for learning disabled adults, but there are also specific tailor made opportunities for children and young poeple.
First Movement is also available for fee paid events. The performance company, Spiral, can also be booked for performances and participatory workshops.
